Researchers have found a significant lithium deposit in Arkansas, potentially exceeding global demand for electric vehicle batteries by 2030. The Smackover Formation brines may contain 5.1 to 19 million tons of lithium, representing 35% to 136% of the current U.S. lithium estimates. This discovery could replace U.S. lithium imports and more, with extraction possible from the brines’ waste stream. The Smackover Formation is already used for oil, gas, and other resources.
