NFL’s Relationship With Roc Nation Won’t Change Amid Jay-Z Sexual Assault Allegations

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has confirmed that the league’s partnership with Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, will remain unchanged despite recent allegations against the musician. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000, alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing multiple sexual assault lawsuits.
The allegations were added to a federal lawsuit by an unnamed Alabama woman, who claims she was invited to a Video Music Awards afterparty by an associate of Combs and was subsequently assaulted. The lawsuit, initially filed in October, alleges that she was given a drugged drink and repeatedly raped by Combs and another male celebrity, now identified as Carter, while a female celebrity watched. The plaintiff managed to escape and later sent a letter requesting mediation, which Carter allegedly responded to with harassment and intimidation tactics.
Carter has denied the allegations, criticizing the plaintiff’s lawyer and expressing support for true victims. His attorney, Alex Spiro, has filed a motion to either reveal the accuser’s identity or dismiss the case, arguing that Carter should not have to defend himself against an anonymous accuser.
Goodell stated that the NFL is aware of the civil allegations and Carter’s response but affirmed that their relationship with Roc Nation, including preparations for the next Super Bowl, will continue as planned. Roc Nation, which partnered with the NFL in 2019, has been involved in producing the Super Bowl halftime show and other musical performances, as well as assisting with social justice initiatives. The partnership was extended in October.
