Lil Durk Hit With New Charges In Alleged Murder-For-Hire Plot—And Could Face Life In Prison If Convicted

Chicago rapper Lil Durk has been indicted by a grand jury on two new felony charges related to an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo, as announced by a California federal court on Friday. If convicted, Lil Durk could face life in prison.
Lil Durk, 32, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, now faces charges of conspiracy, using, carrying, and discharging firearms and a machine gun, and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death. These charges come two weeks after his arrest for conspiracy to use interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death.
The rapper remains in federal custody in Miami following his arrest on October 24.
Lil Durk has been named the lead defendant in an indictment that already includes five co-defendants allegedly connected to the murder-for-hire plot. Prosecutors claim these individuals have ties to Lil Durk’s Only The Family rap collective.
The court has stated that if Lil Durk and his co-defendants are convicted, they could face a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison.
An affidavit filed in federal court, based on FBI agent Sarah Corcoran’s testimony, alleges that Lil Durk placed a bounty on Quando Rondo’s life, citing unnamed witnesses. It also mentions that flight tickets purchased to carry out the murder-for-hire were made with credit cards linked to Lil Durk and Only The Family.
The alleged plot was reportedly in retaliation for the 2020 murder of Lil Durk’s colleague and friend, rapper King Von, according to the affidavit.
The U.S. District Attorney’s office and the affidavit state that Lil Durk attempted to flee the United States prior to his arrest, with three flights booked to Italy, Switzerland, and Dubai, although he did not board any of them.
