Billionaire musician and entrepreneur Jay-Z attended the premiere of “Mufasa: The Lion King” on Monday, following allegations of assault made against him and Sean “Diddy” Combs. The lawsuit, which Jay-Z has vehemently denied, accuses them of assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000.
An anonymous woman from Alabama added Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, to a federal lawsuit initially filed in New York. She claims that in 2000, she was invited to a Video Music Awards afterparty by an associate of Combs and was subsequently sexually assaulted.
The lawsuit, originally filed in October, alleges that she was given a drugged drink and repeatedly raped by Combs and another male celebrity, now identified as Carter, while a female celebrity watched. She eventually managed to escape.
The lawsuit also states that Carter was sent a letter requesting mediation when the case was first filed. However, it alleges that he then orchestrated a campaign of harassment, bullying, and intimidation to silence the plaintiff, prompting her to name him publicly.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Carter denied the allegations, criticized the lawyer who filed the case, and expressed support for true victims.
On Monday, Carter’s attorney, Alex Spiro, filed a motion asking the judge to either compel the accuser to reveal her identity or dismiss the case. Spiro argued that Carter should not have to defend himself publicly against an anonymous accuser.
Combs has consistently denied all sexual assault allegations against him.
