Biden Grants Clemency To Nearly 1,500 People

On Thursday, President Joe Biden made history by granting clemency to 1,500 individuals, marking the highest number of clemencies issued in a single day by any president, according to the White House. This announcement follows the controversial pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, who faced convictions related to gun and tax offenses.
The clemency granted pertains to nearly 1,500 individuals who were placed under home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic, having been released from prison to mitigate the virus’s spread within correctional facilities.
These commutations were awarded to individuals who have been serving their sentences at home for a minimum of one year. The White House emphasized that these individuals have successfully reintegrated into their families and demonstrated their commitment to rehabilitation through employment and educational advancement.
Additionally, President Biden issued pardons to 39 individuals convicted of non-violent offenses, including drug-related crimes, who have shown significant personal transformation.
While the identities of those receiving clemency were not disclosed, the White House highlighted a few notable examples, including a military veteran, a nurse who played a key role in vaccination efforts during the pandemic, and an addiction counselor.
