The Orionids meteor shower, one of the most beautiful of the year, will peak tonight, offering a chance to see debris from Halley’s comet, which won’t return for nearly 50 years. The shower, active from late September to November 22, will be most visible Monday night through Tuesday morning. Originating from Halley’s comet, the meteors are known for their brightness and speed, traveling at 148,000 miles per hour and leaving glowing trails. Halley’s comet, discovered in 1705, last appeared in 1986 and will next be seen in 2061.
