The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced on Monday that it is issuing refunds to players of the widely popular online game Fortnite. This follows a settlement with the game’s developer over allegations of misleading players into making unintended purchases.
Over $72 million in refunds are being distributed to Fortnite players in the United States who were charged for in-game purchases they did not intend to make. These purchases include items such as outfits, emotes, and weapon skins.
Refunds are currently being sent to individuals who submitted claims by October 8th, according to the FTC. Those who filed claims after this date will receive their refunds at a later time, and players who have not yet filed a claim have until January to do so.
This $72 million payout represents the first round of refunds that the FTC plans to distribute, as stated by Lina Khan, the chair of the regulatory agency.
Claimants have the option to receive their refunds via check or PayPal.
