Authorities are currently interrogating a man in central Pennsylvania in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. This development follows what police have described as a “brazen targeted attack” on the executive in Manhattan last week.
According to NBC News, a man in Altoona, Pennsylvania, is under questioning after being found with a firearm resembling the one used in the shooting. The New York Times adds that the Altoona man, who was found with a similar gun, silencer, and fake ID, was spotted by a tipster at a McDonald’s and is now in custody.
Meanwhile, New York Police Department dive teams continued their search for the murder weapon in Central Park on Monday, focusing on the lake behind Bethesda Fountain after a weekend-long search, as reported by CBS.
In addition, the police and U.S. Marshals Service are investigating Greyhound bus stops between New York City and Atlanta and reviewing surveillance footage to determine where the suspect boarded a bus to the Port Authority bus center in New York City, according to CBS, citing unnamed police sources.
The suspect’s identity remains undisclosed, but the New York Police Department has released new photos of a masked “person of interest” in a taxi late Saturday, supplementing two unmasked photos of the suspect reportedly taken at a hostel prior to the shooting.
On Friday evening, authorities discovered a backpack in Central Park that may belong to the suspect. The bag, found during a large-scale search involving officers and drones, reportedly contained Monopoly money and a Tommy Hilfiger jacket, according to multiple news outlets.
Police informed CNN on Friday that they have “reason to believe” the suspected gunman has left New York City, partly because they believe he took a cab to the Port Authority bus center, a hub for interstate buses.
