On Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump, billionaire Bernard Arnault, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky convened in Paris for the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral, which had been closed for years following the 2019 fire.
This marked Trump’s first international trip since his re-election. Prior to the ceremony, he met with French President Emmanuel Macron. Trump commented on their relationship, stating, “We had a great relationship, as everyone knows,” as reported by CNN.
Trump and Macron made a brief appearance with Zelensky, who described his meeting with the two leaders as “good and productive,” and noted that Trump was “as always, resolute.”
Before the ceremony, the president-elect was also set to meet with Prince William, who was scheduled to meet with First Lady Jill Biden, according to the BBC.
The Archbishop of Paris, Laurent Ulrich, commenced the reopening ceremony at approximately 1 p.m. EST by knocking three times on the cathedral’s wooden doors. This was followed by a speech from Macron and a subsequent service.
