President-elect Donald Trump is anticipated to nominate former Senator Kelly Loeffler as the Secretary of Agriculture, according to a CNN report on Friday. This decision elevates the Georgia Republican, who, along with her billionaire husband, contributed over $5 million to support Trump during the election, making them among his top donors.
Trump is expected to extend the offer to Loeffler at a meeting on Friday at his Mar-a-Lago estate, as per anonymous sources cited by CNN. Loeffler has already been appointed as a co-chair for Trump’s inauguration committee.
Loeffler is married to billionaire Jeff Sprecher, the founder of Intercontinental Exchange, a global stock exchange operator. She has been a significant donor to the GOP for a long time.
According to Federal Election Commission filings up to October 16, Loeffler donated approximately $3 million to political action committees supporting Trump or his campaign during the 2023-2024 election cycle. Sprecher also contributed $2.2 million to Trump or Trump-affiliated PACs in his name during the same period, placing the couple among a select group of billionaires who spent over $1 million on Trump’s election.
