Payouts from a 2022 settlement involving e-cigarette company Juul and tobacco firm Altria have begun, with users on Reddit and X reporting receiving thousands of dollars from the $300 million settlement. The class action lawsuit claimed Juul misrepresented the addictiveness and safety of its products and unlawfully marketed to minors. Juul settled for $245 million and Altria for $45 million. Payments were approved earlier this month, and users are reporting receiving amounts ranging from a few hundred dollars to $9,000. The settlement covers consumers who purchased Juul products before Dec. 7, 2022. Juul did not admit wrongdoing, and Altria denied the accusations.
